Fascinated by photography since childhood, my interest in this art form has gained greater momentum in recent years with the arrival and steady increase of digital technology.
I approach every shot with equal excitement and enthusiasm, whatever the subject. I prefer to shoot in strong lighting conditions in order to maximise each image’s tonal range and, where the content so dictates, I convert to monochrome to emphasize form, pattern and character. While I have not sought to specialise in one particular photographic genre, I always aim to produce images which convey humour, ambiance, danger, personality etc.
My digital darkroom processes are a blend of both established and less-conventional techniques. Although this stage of the photographic workflow is less haphazard than the actual moment of shooting, I still confess to feeling great pleasure at seeing the image take shape and grow into its full potential, before the final and wonderfully satisfying print-stage.
My work, to date, has involved a lot of local Sussex scenes, people and events, with a generally ‘bright’ outlook. My envisaged projects, however, will make inroads into ‘darker’ topics, with a greater emphasis placed upon message and mood. Watch this space.
