Things to know

  • Check-in is from 3pm. You’re very welcome to arrive earlier to drop off your luggage and settle in — grab a coffee, a drink or a cocktail in the bar, or head out to explore the neighbourhood.

When you arrive, our main entrance is along Cave Street — just look out for the large blue doors with the pink neon sign and ring the buzzer. You can also enter via the Boot Factory bar & eatery on Cave Street, which is open daily from morning until late, and a member of the team will be happy to help you through.

Check-out is by 11am. If you’d like a little extra time, late check-out can be arranged for £20 per hour, subject to availability.

We can’t guarantee early check-in or late check-out, but let us know your plans and we’ll always do our best on the day.

  • Our rooms are designed to feel comfortable, relaxed and thoughtfully put together — the kind of place you can properly settle into.

Each room includes complimentary tea and coffee, a pod coffee machine using Grind coffee pods and fresh milk kept in the fridge, along with a thoughtfully stocked minibar featuring local and artisan snacks and drinks. You’ll also find complimentary Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a Smart TV with streaming capabilities, an in-room phone, a Roberts radio, a hairdryer and Bramley bath and body products in every bathroom. Oat or soy milk is available on request, and irons and ironing boards can be provided if needed.

Beds are made up with crisp Egyptian cotton linen and fluffy towels are provided. We use feather pillows and duvets as standard, with non-allergenic bedding available on request.

As with all Artist Residence houses, rooms vary slightly in size and layout — part of the charm of staying in a characterful historic building, each with its own personality.

  • Food and drink at Artist Residence Bristol centres around The Boot Factory — a relaxed, easygoing bar and restaurant that’s as much for locals as it is for guests.

We’re open every day for breakfast, with weekend brunch and lunch, and evening dinner served Tuesday to Saturday. The space itself is open all day, every day for drinks, whether you’re stopping by for a morning coffee, an afternoon drink, or cocktails later on.

The menu is designed for flexibility, with small plates made for sharing alongside more wholesome, larger dishes. Expect a fun, sociable atmosphere, great music, and a laid-back neighbourhood feel rather than formal dining.

The Boot Factory includes a mix of spaces to suit different moods, from the main bar and intimate dining room to The Library, a games room with ping pong, and a terrace that comes into its own in the warmer months.

Breakfast isn’t usually included in room rates unless stated at the time of booking. We recommend booking a table at busier times, particularly for weekend brunch and evenings.

For the most up-to-date opening times, menus and reservations, please visit our Food & Drink page or speak to the team during your stay.

  • Our Bristol house sits on historic Portland Square, just moments from the heart of the city and directly opposite Cabot Circus shopping centre, with easy access to the motorway for those arriving by car.

If you’re arriving by train, Bristol Temple Meads is around a 25-minute walk or a 7-minute drive from the hotel. Bristol Parkway station is around a 14-minute drive away. Both stations have local Blue Line taxis available, and Uber operates across the city. If you’d prefer to pre-book, we recommend Zoom Cars on 0117 9555 555.

Bristol Coach Station is around a 10-minute walk, and Bristol Airport is approximately a 30-minute taxi ride.

We don’t have on-site parking, but there are good options nearby. St James Barton Car Park is around a 5-minute walk from the hotel and costs £28 for 24 hours, with early bird rates available if booked via their app.

Guests are very welcome to arrive at the hotel first to drop off luggage before parking.

  • Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.

Our team is on hand day and night and always happy to help — whether you need extra pillows, local recommendations or anything else during your stay.

Bedrooms are serviced daily. If you’d prefer privacy or don’t require housekeeping during your stay, just let us know.

If you arrive before check-in or are heading off later in the day, we’re very happy to store your luggage.

We kindly ask guests to be considerate of others, particularly in the evenings. Smoking and vaping aren’t permitted inside the hotel or bedrooms; if you do need to smoke, please do so outside.

Guests are welcome to use laptops in our shared spaces during the day. In the evenings, the bar becomes a lively, buzzy and sociable space — from 6pm onwards, we ask that laptops are put away in our bar areas to help keep the atmosphere relaxed and convivial. On quieter evenings, laptops are welcome in The Library if it’s available. We kindly ask that laptops aren’t used in the dining room at any time.

We also ask guests to be mindful of noise later in the evening so everyone can enjoy a good night’s sleep.

  • Well-behaved dogs are very welcome at Artist Residence Bristol, and we have a selection of dog-friendly rooms available. There’s a charge of £20 per dog, per night, which includes a comfy dog bed, bowls and treats.

Dog-friendly rooms include The Artist Suite and Club Suite, which are well suited to guests travelling with more than one dog, accommodating up to three small dogs or two medium-sized dogs. We also offer dog-friendly stays in the Bigger Crash Pad, Crash Pad, and selected Boot Room, Workshop, Factory, Loft, and Chapter Street Double or Twin rooms, subject to availability.

When booking online, please add a note to let us know you’re bringing your dog. Sharing their name and size or breed helps us prepare the right bed and make them feel at home. If you’re unsure which room to choose, just get in touch and we’ll happily help.

Dogs are welcome in all of our spaces but should be kept on a lead and supervised at all times. We kindly ask that dogs aren’t left unattended in bedrooms.

  • Families are very welcome at Artist Residence Bristol, and we have a range of rooms suitable for guests travelling with children. Our team is always happy to help you choose the most suitable room for your stay.

Complimentary cots are available, subject to availability, and can be accommodated in the Artist Suite, Club Suite, Workshop, Factory, Loft and Bigger Crash Pad.

Several of our room types work well for families or groups travelling together. The Lookout interconnects with a Boot Room Double or Twin, while our third-floor Loft rooms share an interconnecting lobby. The Crash Pad and Bigger Crash Pad are also located within their own area of the building, with a private entrance that can be used as an interconnecting lobby, creating interconnecting rooms if needed. Please note that the Crash Pad rooms are located above the kitchen, so there may be a gentle background hum during kitchen hours, which may not suit young families.

The Artist Suite and Club Suite can each accommodate a fold-up single bed for £40 per night, as can one of our third-floor Loft bedrooms. Sofas in the Artist Suite, Club Suite and Lookout can also be made up as sofa beds for children at £30 per child, per night. The Artist Suite and Club Suite feature large corner sofas, which can accommodate up to two children.

Breakfast and shared spaces are relaxed and family-friendly, though the Boot Factory is a lively, sociable bar and restaurant in the evenings, which may not be best suited to very young children at busier times.

Highchairs are available. When booking online, please let us know if you’ll need a cot, fold-up bed or sofa bed made up, so we can have everything ready for your arrival. If you’re unsure which room will work best for your family, just get in touch — we’ll be very happy to advise.

  • Artist Residence Bristol is set across a Grade I listed Georgian townhouse and the Boot Factory, a Grade II listed former warehouse, which means the layout includes original features and a few steps throughout.

There are two entrances — one for the hotel and one for The Boot Factory — both with a few steps leading up from street level. Inside, the bar and lounge are located on the ground floor, with bedrooms spread across three floors above ground level. We have a small lift providing access to the first and second floors, as well as the lower-ground floor, where our Blue Room events space is located.

The third floor is accessed via stairs from the second floor, which the lift serves, and is then reached by stairs only. This floor is home to The Lookout, Broom Cupboard, Boot Room Double or Twin, and two of our Loft bedrooms.

On the floors served by the lift, The Artist Suite, Club Suite, Shoebox rooms and Boot Room rooms are all located on the same level, with a few steps required to access some other bedrooms. The Crash Pad and Bigger Crash Pad can be accessed either via an external staircase at the rear of the hotel, or via the lift, followed by a couple of internal steps and a short external section through an interconnecting lobby and staircase.

We have an accessible WC on the ground floor, and step-free access into the Boot Factory can be arranged via the rear of the property on request.

If you have any accessibility requirements or would like advice on the most suitable room for your stay, we recommend getting in touch before booking. Our team will always be happy to talk through the options and do their best to help.

  • Artist Residence Bristol is set within historic buildings full of character, and with that comes a lively atmosphere and the occasional bit of noise. While all rooms benefit from air conditioning and secondary glazing, sound can still travel between rooms and along corridors, and some areas of the house are naturally livelier than others.

The Boot Factory bar & restaurant can be busy in the evenings, and sound may carry to nearby rooms. We’re also located in a creative, central part of the city, and at weekends the surrounding area can be prone to music and general city buzz.

The Crash Pad and Bigger Crash Pad rooms are located above the kitchen, so during kitchen opening hours there may be a gentle background hum or buzz, which some guests may notice.

Many guests love the energy and atmosphere that comes with staying here, but if you’re sensitive to noise or prefer a quieter room, please do let us know. Some rooms are calmer than others, and we’re always happy to recommend the best options where possible.

When booking online, you’re very welcome to add a note with any preferences, and we’ll always do our best to allocate the most suitable room within your chosen category.

  • Artist Residence Bristol sits on historic Portland Square, right on the edge of the city centre and moments from some of Bristol’s most creative and characterful neighbourhoods.

Step outside and you’re close to Stokes Croft, Old Market and Cabot Circus, with independent shops, cafés, street art, music venues and places to eat all within easy walking distance. The city centre, harbourside and Bristol’s thriving food and drink scene are also close by, making it a great base for exploring on foot.

A little further afield, the harbourside offers waterside walks, galleries and museums, while Clifton and the Suspension Bridge are a short taxi ride or walk away for classic Bristol views and village-style streets.

It’s a lively, walkable part of the city with plenty happening on your doorstep. If you’d like recommendations tailored to your interests — whether that’s food, culture, shopping or live music — just ask. We’re always happy to share our local favourites.

  • Artist Residence Bristol offers a collection of relaxed, characterful spaces for private events — from birthdays, celebrations and informal get-togethers to meetings and creative sessions.

Our Blue Room is well suited to larger parties, meetings and group events. The space has its own private bar, a ceiling-mounted projector, and can be accessed via a private entrance, making it ideal for both social occasions and relaxed work sessions.

For smaller, more intimate celebrations, The Library works beautifully and includes its own private bar. Our games room is a great option for drinks parties and larger groups, while the terrace comes into its own in the warmer months for outdoor dining and drinks.

Food and drink can be tailored to suit your event, from drinks-led parties and sharing plates to private dining and feasting-style menus. Our team will help shape something that feels right for your occasion.

For more details, please visit our Events page or get in touch with the team at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to talk you through the options.

  • Booking directly with us means a more personal, flexible and relaxed stay — often with a few extra perks along the way.

When you book direct with Artist Residence Bristol, you’ll receive our best available rates and the most flexible booking terms, along with more thoughtful room allocation and direct communication with our team. You’ll also be the first to hear about special offers, seasonal packages and events.

Most importantly, booking direct allows us to look after you properly from the moment you book to the moment you leave, without messages being passed back and forth through a third party.

If you happen to spot a lower rate for the same room and dates elsewhere, just let us know — we’ll always do our best to match it.

We also offer a small number of corporate, media and artist rates, subject to availability. If you’re travelling regularly for work, visiting as part of a creative project, or collaborating with Artist Residence, please email us at [email protected] to enquire.

  • Gift vouchers can be used towards bedroom stays, as well as food and drink at Artist Residence Bristol, unless stated otherwise.

For bedroom stays, please get in touch with us directly and we’ll be very happy to help arrange your booking and apply your gift voucher.

For food or drinks, you’re welcome to book a table online as usual — just add a note to let us know you’ll be using a gift voucher and bring it with you on the day so we can apply it.

If you have any questions or would like a hand with booking, just get in touch — we’re always happy to help. For full details, experiences and terms, please visit our Gift Voucher page.

  • Availability shown on our website is live and up to date. If your dates aren’t appearing, it usually means we’re fully booked or that a minimum night stay applies.

Room rates vary depending on demand and seasonality, but once your booking is confirmed, your rate will not change.

Cancellation terms depend on the rate you choose and will always be clearly shown when you book and in your confirmation email. Flexible rates allow free cancellation up to 72 hours before arrival, while some special offers are non-refundable.

If you’ve booked directly with us and need to make a change or cancel, simply email [email protected] and we’ll be happy to help. If your booking was made through a third-party website, any changes or cancellations will need to be arranged directly with them.

If we’re fully booked for your chosen dates, you might like to check availability at one of our other Artist Residence locations.

  • If you think you’ve left something behind, please get in touch as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to help. While we can’t take responsibility for items left after departure, we’ll always take care to assist with their safe return where possible. Please note that any postage costs for returning items are chargeable.

  • We’re always happy to help where we can. If you have any allergies or dietary requirements, please let us know in advance or mention it when you arrive.

Our menus include a range of options to suit different diets, and the team will be glad to talk you through what’s available. While we take allergies seriously, our kitchen handles a variety of ingredients, so we can’t guarantee an entirely allergen-free environment.

We stock dairy milk in rooms as standard — if you’d prefer oat or soy milk, just let us know when booking and we’ll arrange this for you.
