Join the Team.
At Artist Residence, we create neighbourhood places to stay, eat, drink and celebrate—full of character, thoughtful details and genuinely warm hospitality.
But it's our people who bring them to life.
We're proudly independent, and we like it that way. From the wild Cornish coast to the vibrant streets of London, every one of our hotels has its own personality, but they're all united by the same belief: that great hospitality comes from thoughtful people who genuinely care.
We're always looking for kind, curious people who enjoy making others feel at home. Whatever your role, you'll play an important part in creating places people love to return to and experiences they'll remember long after they've left.

-
Hospitality comes first.
Whatever your role, we're all hosts. Every interaction is an opportunity to make someone feel genuinely welcome, relaxed and looked after.
We care about the little things.
The smallest gestures often make the biggest difference. A thoughtful recommendation, remembering an anniversary or noticing a guest's favourite table can turn a good stay into a memorable one. We believe it's the little details that people remember most.
Be yourself.
Every Artist Residence has its own personality, and so do the people who work here. We celebrate individuality and believe the best hospitality feels genuine, never scripted.
We trust good people.
We're proudly independent, so we trust our teams to take ownership, make decisions and bring new ideas to the table. We believe people do their best work when they're trusted and supported.
Take pride in what you do.
Beautiful hospitality comes from doing the basics brilliantly. Spotless rooms, delicious food, thoughtful service and warm welcomes don't happen by chance—they come from people who genuinely care about getting the details right.
Keep learning.
We're always evolving. We ask questions, share ideas and look for better ways of doing things. Curiosity, creativity and a willingness to grow are all part of life at Artist Residence.
Enjoy the journey.
Hospitality is hard work, but it should also be rewarding. We support one another, celebrate successes and enjoy the moments in between. We believe the best teams work hard, laugh often and create places where both guests and colleagues feel at home.

Penzance - General Manager
Great hotels aren't built by one person—but they are shaped by an exceptional leader.
Artist Residence Penzance is a characterful coastal hotel, home to the Cornish Barn restaurant, welcoming bar and festival garden in the heart of historic Chapel Street.
At Artist Residence, our General Managers are known as House Ambassadors because they do far more than run a hotel. We're looking for a hands-on hospitality leader to inspire our team, champion genuine hospitality and help shape the next chapter of one of Cornwall's most distinctive boutique hotels.
-
🕒 Full-time | Five days per week, including evenings and weekends
💷 Competitive salary + bonus + service chargeThe Role
Great hotels aren't built by one person—but they are shaped by one exceptional leader.
Artist Residence Penzance is more than a hotel.
It's a place where guests come to slow down, explore the Cornish coast, enjoy exceptional food and drink, celebrate special occasions and feel completely at home.
At Artist Residence, our General Managers are known as House Ambassadors because we believe the role is about far more than running a hotel. It's about setting the tone, leading by example and creating a place where guests feel genuinely welcome, your team feels inspired and the local community is proud to call you one of their own.
As House Ambassador, you'll lead our hotel, restaurant, bar and festival garden with confidence, warmth and genuine hospitality. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll be just as comfortable welcoming guests and leading service as you are reviewing financial performance, developing your management team and helping shape the future of the business.
Working closely with our central team in Bristol, you'll play a key role in shaping your hotel, developing your team and continually improving the guest experience, while contributing ideas that help the wider Artist Residence collection grow.
More than anything, you'll become the face of the hotel—creating a positive culture, building genuine relationships with guests and becoming a valued part of the Penzance community. You'll lead by example, inspire those around you and create a place where guests love to stay and people love to work.
A Typical Day
No two days are ever the same, but your role will include:
Leading and inspiring the hotel team through visible, hands-on leadership.
Creating exceptional guest experiences across the hotel, restaurant, bar and festival garden.
Leading service and spending time on the floor with both guests and your team.
Building a positive culture where people enjoy coming to work and feel proud of what they do.
Coaching, mentoring and developing your management team.
Driving financial performance through thoughtful commercial decisions, labour planning and cost control.
Working closely with the Head Chef to continually evolve the food and beverage offering.
Building relationships within the local community and identifying opportunities to grow the business.
Monitoring guest feedback and continually raising standards across every department.
Working alongside our central Operations, Marketing, Finance and Reservations teams to help the hotel thrive.
About You
We're looking for someone who genuinely loves hospitality.
You might already be a General Manager, or perhaps you're an experienced Restaurant Manager, Hotel Manager, Operations Manager or Deputy General Manager who's ready to take the next step. Whatever your current title, what matters most is the leader you are.
You're someone who naturally notices the little things. You take pride in creating exceptional guest experiences, enjoy building genuine relationships and understand that the smallest gestures often leave the biggest impression.
You'll be highly organised, calm under pressure and happiest when you're out on the floor—welcoming guests, supporting your team and leading service by example. You're the person people naturally turn to, whether it's a guest looking for reassurance or a colleague needing guidance.
You'll bring positive energy wherever you go. You'll inspire confidence, lift those around you and create an environment where guests feel genuinely welcome, your team enjoys coming to work and the local community feels proud to have you as part of it.
You'll enjoy coaching others, setting high standards and building a culture where people feel trusted, supported and motivated to do their best work.
We're less interested in how many General Manager roles you've held and more interested in the leader you are. If you bring warmth, curiosity, commercial awareness and a genuine passion for hospitality, we'd love to hear from you.
Why Artist Residence?
We're proudly independent, and we like it that way.
Every one of our hotels has its own personality, but they're all united by the same belief: that great hospitality comes from thoughtful people who genuinely care.
