    Hours:

    • Weekdays: 7.15am – 10.45am

Penzance - House Manager

We’re looking for a House Manager who understands both sides — the warmth of hospitality and the structure of running a small hotel.

This role would suit someone with experience in a small hotel, pub with rooms, or boutique hospitality setting who is ready to take responsibility for the full day-to-day operation of the house during their shifts.

  • Are you a natural host with a calm head and strong organisational skills?
Do you enjoy running a building, not just a shift?

Artist Residence is a 20-bedroom boutique hotel with a lively bar and restaurant at its heart. We create neighbourhood spaces full of soul and good times — somewhere guests can settle in from breakfast to bedtime, coffee to cocktails. But we are also, importantly, a hotel. Our bedrooms, guest experience, and operational standards matter deeply.

This role would suit someone with experience in a small hotel, pub with rooms, or boutique hospitality setting who is ready to take responsibility for the full day-to-day operation of the house during their shifts.

    The Role

As House Manager, you are responsible for the smooth running of the hotel during your shift.

You are the key decision-maker on site — holding the building, supporting the team, and ensuring both guests and operations run seamlessly.

    Your responsibilities include:

    Hotel Operations

    • Managing guest check-ins and check-outs efficiently and warmly

    • Overseeing reservations, guest communications, and daily arrivals/departures

    • Ensuring bedrooms are ready on time and housekeeping schedules are clear

    • Maintaining presentation and standards across rooms and public areas

    • Handling guest queries, complaints and problem-solving with confidence

    • Managing room allocations and working with the reservations system

    • Ensuring compliance, safety and security procedures are followed

    Food & Beverage Leadership

    • Leading front-of-house service from breakfast through to evening drinks

    • Supporting bar and restaurant service when required

    • Ensuring smooth communication between kitchen, bar and floor

    • Maintaining service standards and atmosphere

    Team & Administration

    • Acting as Duty Manager for the shift

    • Leading and supporting the team on the floor

    • Completing cash-ups, daily reports and basic admin

    • Ensuring clear handovers between shifts

    Schedule

    • Seasonal - full time in the summer and busy months

    • Must be available weekends

During quieter periods, you may run the house independently. In busier seasons, you’ll lead alongside a larger team — keeping service flowing and standards high.

    Your focus is simple:
Well-run shifts. Happy guests. High standards across both rooms and F&B.

    What We’re Looking For

This is not just a hosting role — it is an operational leadership role.

We’re ideally looking for someone with:

    • Experience running shifts in a small hotel, boutique hotel, or pub with rooms

    • Strong understanding of front desk operations and guest journey

    • Experience managing check-ins, reservations systems and room allocations

    • Supervisory or managerial experience in hospitality

    • Confidence making decisions and handling issues independently

    • Excellent organisational and time management skills

    • A calm, solutions-focused approach under pressure

    • A warm, natural hosting style

You don’t need to have held the exact title “House Manager” before — but you should be comfortable taking ownership of a small hotel during your shift.

    Why Join Artist Residence?

We are proudly independent, creative and ambitious — but we care deeply about standards. Our hotels are characterful and relaxed, but professionally run.

    You’ll receive:

    • Real responsibility and trust

    • A supportive, down-to-earth team culture

    • Opportunities to grow within a multi-site independent group

    • Competitive salary / hourly rate

    • Staff perks across all Artist Residence locations

We want people who take pride in running a beautiful house properly — and making guests feel genuinely cared for.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
