Check-in is from 3pm. When you arrive, please pop into the pub and head to the bar — the team will welcome you, check you in and show you to your room.
If you arrive a little earlier, you’re very welcome to leave your bags with us, enjoy a drink in the pub, or head out for a countryside walk while we prepare your room.
Check-out is by 11am. Some direct booking rates include a complimentary 12 midday check-out — if this applies to your stay, it will be clearly shown when you book and confirmed in your booking email.
Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability on the day, so while we can’t guarantee them, do let us know your plans and we’ll always do our best to help. Late check-out is usually available for £20 per hour, subject to availability.

Every room at Artist Residence Oxfordshire is individually designed, with its own layout and character — part of the charm of staying in a historic country pub and its surrounding outbuildings.
You can expect beautifully made beds with crisp linens, fluffy towels and luxury toiletries, along with a hairdryer, tea and coffee-making facilities with a pod coffee machine and fresh milk, a thoughtfully stocked minibar, a Smart TV with streaming capabilities, a Roberts radio, an in-room telephone and Wi-Fi. Feather pillows and duvets are provided as standard, with non-allergenic bedding available on request. Irons and ironing boards are available on request.
The farmhouse dates back to the 16th century, and while we’ve done our best to sensitively soundproof the rooms, a little sound can travel within the main building, where original features such as leaded, single-glazed windows remain. Rooms located in the outbuildings — particularly the Barn Suite, Stable Suite, Stable Rooms and The Hideaway — tend to be especially quiet and are often a good choice for lighter sleepers.
On some evenings especially at weekends, the pub has a lively and merry ambience. Bedrooms above the pub may notice a little background noise at busier times. Beyond the house, the surrounding countryside is very calm and peaceful, and nights here are generally quiet.
If you’re a light sleeper or have any preferences around room location, you’re very welcome to let us know. When booking online, feel free to add a note and we’ll always do our best to advise on and allocate the most suitable room within your chosen category.

Breakfast is served daily for both hotel guests and non-residents. It’s a relaxed start to the day, with fresh juice and great coffee. Expect favourites such as The Full Hanbury breakfast, local soft-scrambled eggs, homemade granola with seasonal compote, and other freshly cooked dishes made with care.
Breakfast isn’t usually included unless your room rate states otherwise — any inclusions will be clearly shown when you book and in your confirmation email.
Food and drink is centred around Mr Hanbury’s Mason Arms, our much-loved country pub set in a small hamlet, where locals, hotel guests, walkers and muddy boots are all warmly welcomed. Inside, you’ll find comfortable sofas and cosy armchairs, well-worn wood, a glowing log burner and a large inglenook fireplace, perfect for fireside drinks. The bar pours local ales, thoughtfully chosen wines and cracking cocktails, while the dining room offers a relaxed, unfussy place to eat. In warmer months, the terrace and garden come into their own. Expect classic pub cooking done well, seasonal dishes and generous Sunday roasts.
We serve daily breakfast, evening dinner service, Saturday lunch and Sunday lunchtime roasts.
Walk-ins are always welcome, particularly for drinks and more relaxed visits, but we recommend booking ahead for weekend evenings and Sunday lunch, when the pub is at its busiest. Tables and opening times can be found online.

Well-behaved dogs are very welcome at Artist Residence Oxfordshire, and many of our rooms work well for stays with dogs.
Well-behaved dogs are very welcome at Artist Residence Oxfordshire, and many of our rooms work well for stays with dogs.
Most rooms are dog friendly, with the exception of the Farmhouse Suite, which we keep dog-free so that we always have a room available for guests with pet allergies. Many dog-friendly rooms are on the ground floor with easy access to the outdoors, while others are located above the pub or within the surrounding buildings. Some rooms are more compact than others, so choosing a little extra space will usually make for a more comfortable stay if you’re travelling with dogs.
There’s a charge of £20 per dog, per night, which includes a comfy dog bed, bowls and a few treats to help them settle in.
Dogs are welcome in the pub and the front section of the dining room. We kindly ask that they’re kept on a lead and supervised in shared spaces, and that they aren’t left unattended in bedrooms. With countryside walks straight from the door, it’s an easy place to explore together.
When booking online, please let us know that you’ll be bringing a dog so we can allocate the most suitable room. Sharing a little detail — such as your dog’s size — helps us prepare everything comfortably for your arrival. If you’re unsure which room will work best, we’re always happy to help.

amilies are very welcome at Artist Residence Oxfordshire, and many enjoy the slower pace, open space and countryside setting.
For families wanting a little more room to settle in, The Hideaway is our most family-friendly option. Set in its own private building just a few steps from the pub, it offers a master double bedroom, a bunk room for children, a shared living space and a cosy log burner — a relaxed, home-from-home stay.
For families with older children who are happy to sleep separately, pairing nearby rooms — such as the Farmhouse Suite with a Farmhouse Loft Double or Twin — can also work well.
Complimentary cots are available in most rooms, though they can’t be accommodated in The Shepherd’s Hut, The Burrows or The Rabbit Hole. Extra fold-up beds are available in each of our Suites and one of the Farmhouse Loft rooms for £40 per night, subject to availability. The other Farmhouse Loft includes a sofa that can be made up as a bed for a small child for £30 per night. Cots and extra beds are available by advance request, so if you’re booking online, please let us know your requirements so we can have everything ready for your arrival.
Children are welcome to dine with you in the pub, where we offer a small children’s menu. Highchairs are available on request, and the team will always be happy to advise on the best table or timing for your family.
As rooms are spread across the pub and surrounding buildings, some layouts naturally work better for families than others. If you’re unsure which room will suit you best, please do get in touch — we’re always happy to help.

Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the house. As with many older rural buildings, the signal can vary a little from room to room — if you need a hand getting connected, just let us know and we’ll be happy to help.
Our team is always around and glad to assist, whether you need extra pillows, directions for a countryside walk, local recommendations, or anything else to help you settle in and enjoy your stay.
Bedrooms are serviced daily. If you’d prefer privacy or don’t need housekeeping during your stay, just let us know and we’ll happily arrange this.
We kindly ask guests to be considerate of others, particularly in the evenings. Smoking and vaping aren’t permitted inside the pub or bedrooms; if you do need to smoke, please do so outside.
We hope the pub feels like a place to slow down and switch off — whether that’s enjoying the countryside air, settling in by the fire or enjoying a long lunch. If you do need to use a laptop, this is welcome during quieter moments, such as midweek daytime hours. In the evenings, from 6pm onwards, and during busier times like weekend lunch, we ask that laptops are put away so shared spaces can stay relaxed and sociable for everyone. For the comfort of all our guests, video calls aren’t permitted in shared areas, and phone calls are best taken outside or kept discreet.
We also ask guests to be mindful of noise later in the evening, so everyone can enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep.

Artist Residence Oxfordshire is tucked away in the small village of South Leigh, surrounded by rolling countryside, winding lanes and classic Oxfordshire villages. It’s a peaceful, rural setting that feels properly removed from the everyday, yet still well placed for exploring the area.
Step outside and you’ll find beautiful walks straight from the door, passing fields, woodland and neighbouring villages — perfect for a morning wander or a post-lunch stroll. Guests are very welcome to borrow our bicycles for exploring the lanes and countryside nearby, and to help yourselves to a pair of wellies if the paths are muddy or the weather turns.
The historic city of Oxford is around a 20-minute drive away, offering museums, colleges, bookshops and riverside walks along the Cherwell and Thames. The wider Cotswolds are also close by, with their honey-coloured villages, market towns and scenic walking routes.
It’s a wonderfully relaxed base for switching off — with nature, history and good pubs close at hand. If you’d like recommendations for walks, cycling routes, villages or day trips, just ask. We’re always happy to help you make the most of your stay.

Mr Hanbury’s Mason Arms is a wonderfully atmospheric setting for private gatherings and relaxed celebrations, tucked away in a small Oxfordshire hamlet and surrounded by countryside. It’s particularly well suited to events that feel personal, unhurried and a little bit special.
We host a range of gatherings, from long-table suppers and fireside dinners to family celebrations, milestone birthdays and intimate weddings. In the warmer months, the garden really comes into its own, with our seasonal marquee and BBQ shack creating a relaxed, celebratory backdrop for summer parties, post-wedding gatherings and countryside get-togethers that drift from afternoon into evening.
Food and drink can be tailored to suit your group and the style of your event, with menus shaped by the seasons — from generous pub feasts and sharing plates to laid-back BBQs and drinks-led celebrations. Our spaces work beautifully for gatherings that centre around good food, good company and time well spent together.
If you’re considering a private hire or event, we recommend getting in touch to talk through what you have in mind and explore the best options for your group. For further details, including sample menus and availability, please email us at [email protected] and the team will be happy to help.

Artist Residence Oxfordshire is an old farmhouse with rooms spread across the main house, nearby buildings and the Shepherd’s Hut, so access does vary a little from room to room.
There’s no lift. Rooms above the pub are on the first floor, while rooms in the surrounding buildings are all on the ground floor. The Shepherd’s Hut is reached via a small number of steps. The car park is gravelled, and there are a few steps up into the pub. Inside, you’ll find uneven floors and small changes in level, which come with a building of this age.
If you have any mobility considerations or would like to talk through what might work best for you, just let us know before booking or add a note when booking online. We’re always happy to help guide you to the most suitable room. The team is also very happy to help with luggage on arrival and departure.

Booking directly with us means a more personal, flexible and easy-going stay — the sort you’d expect from a good country pub, with a few thoughtful extras along the way.
When you book direct with Artist Residence, you’ll always receive our best available rates and the most flexible booking terms, along with more considered room allocation and direct contact with the team who’ll be welcoming you. It also means you’ll be the first to hear about seasonal offers, special packages and events happening here at the pub.
Most importantly, booking direct allows us to look after you properly from the moment you book to the moment you head home — no messages passed through third parties, just a straightforward, friendly line of communication.
If you happen to spot a lower rate for the same room and dates elsewhere, do let us know — we’ll always do our best to match it.
We also offer a small number of corporate, media and artist rates, subject to availability. If you’re visiting regularly for work, staying as part of a creative project, or collaborating with us in some way, please drop us a line at [email protected] and we’ll happily talk it through.

Gift vouchers can be used towards bedroom stays, as well as food and drink at Artist Residence, unless stated otherwise.
For bedroom stays, please get in touch with the relevant house directly and we’ll be very happy to help arrange your booking and apply your gift voucher.
For food or drinks, you’re welcome to book a table online as usual — just add a note to let us know you’ll be using a gift voucher and bring it with you on the day so we can apply it.
If you have any questions or would like a hand with booking, just get in touch — we’re always happy to help. For full details, experiences and terms, please visit our Gift Voucher page.

Availability shown on our website is live and always up to date. If your dates aren’t appearing, it usually means we’re fully booked or that a minimum night stay applies.
Minimum stays occasionally apply at weekends, over bank holidays and during particularly busy periods in the area, such as major events at Blenheim Palace or other local seasonal events. Any minimum stay requirements will always be clearly shown when you search and book online.
Room rates vary depending on demand, seasonality and availability. Once your booking is confirmed, the rate you’ve booked will not change.
Cancellation terms vary depending on the rate you’ve chosen and will always be clearly shown when you book and in your confirmation email. If you’d like a little more flexibility, we recommend choosing a flexible rate, which allows free cancellation up to 72 hours before arrival. Some special offers and promotions are non-refundable and non-amendable — any restrictions will be clearly explained before you confirm your booking.
If you’ve booked directly with us and need to make a change or cancel, simply email [email protected] and we’ll be happy to help. If your booking was made through a third-party website, any changes or cancellations will need to be arranged directly with them.
Cancellations made outside the applicable cancellation window, or in the case of a no-show, are non-refundable in line with the terms of the rate booked. If a refund is due, once processed it can take up to seven working days to appear in your account, depending on your bank.
If we’re fully booked for your chosen dates, you might like to take a look at one of our other Artist Residence locations — we often have availability at another house.

We’re always happy to help where we can.
If you have any allergies or dietary requirements, please let us know in advance or speak to the team when you arrive and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. Our menus include a range of options to suit different diets, and the team will be happy to guide you.
While we take allergies seriously, our kitchen handles a wide range of ingredients, so we can’t guarantee an entirely allergen-free environment.
We stock fresh dairy milk in rooms as standard — if you’d prefer oat or soy milk, just let us know when booking and we’ll happily arrange this for you.
-
If you think you’ve left something behind, please get in touch with us as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to help.
While we’re not able to take responsibility for items left after departure, we’ll always take care to assist with their safe return where we can. Please note that any postage or courier costs for returning items will be chargeable.
