Eccentrically English
An idyllic retreat at the gateway to the picture-perfect Cotswolds, this 16th-century inn has 5 comfy bedrooms nestled under its cosy thatch, a further 3 in the converted farm outbuildings and a quirky Shepherd's Hut at the end of the garden, designed to encapsulate the relaxed and bohemian spirit of the English countryside.
Downstairs, you'll find The Mason Arms, our take on the traditional country pub - fun, friendly and a little offbeat, with an easy-going menu of simple, hearty fare, a sunny terrace garden and cosy corners beside roaring log fires...you might want to stay all day...

Eat & Drink
A stay at Artist Residence wouldn't be complete without soaking up the fun and friendly atmosphere in The Mason Arms, a friendly neighbourhood hub from coffee to cocktails, breakfast to bedtime.
Comfy nooks, open fireplaces, proper pints, jolly bartenders, and a hearty menu, we’ve taken all the tell-tale signs of a good English pub and shaken them up with a curious collection of artworks and oddities to keep you entertained along the way.
As for our menu, we keep our dishes simple and homely, letting the flavours of the season do all the talking, and sourcing ingredients from the Oxfordshire countryside wherever we can.

Check-in is from 3pm, but you are very welcome to arrive early and leave your bags with us whilst you head out to explore or relax in the pub.
Check-out is 11am, but if you would prefer a little more snoozing time just let us know on arrival and we can arrange a late check-out for £20 per hour.

We have an on-site car park.
Minimum Stay
There is a two night minimum stay on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as on bank holidays and during the Christmas period.
We are sometimes able to make exceptions for last minute availability – to enquire please call our reservations team on 01993 656220.
Travel
We are located in South Leigh, a small hamlet just 10 minutes from the town of Witney, a short drive from the Cotswolds and approximately 1.5 hours drive from London.
The hotel is a 15 minute drive from Hanborough train station or a 25 minute drive from Oxford – easily reachable in around 1 hour from London Paddington, with regular trains every hour.
It is essential to pre-book a taxi from Hanborough station as it is a very quiet rural station and does not have a taxi rank. This should cost £15/20, and we recommend Witney Club Taxis.
Food & Drink
The pub is open daily from 8am.
Breakfast is served daily from 8am – 10:30am
Lunch is served from: 12pm – 3pm Monday – Saturday | 12pm – 4pm on Sunday
Dinner is served from: 6pm – 9:30pm daily
Bringing Dogs
We welcome dogs in the pub, garden and in a selection of our bedrooms – you can see our dog friendly rooms here.
We’re in a rural setting with plenty of great countryside dog walks on our doorstep.
Please note, there is a surcharge of £15 per dog, per night, to include Lily’s Kitchen organic dog treats, bed & bowls.
If you’d like assistance with your booking please email us at oxford@artistresidence.co.uk
Accessibility
All of the bedrooms in the Main Farmhouse are located on the first floor and we do not have a lift. The Barn Suite, Stable Suite and Stable are all located in converted outbuildings, and situated on the ground floor without any steps, whilst the Shepherd’s Hut is accessible by a small set of steps.
This is an old farmhouse building and so there are small steps and narrow corridors throughout.
For more information please email us at oxford@artistresidence.co.uk
Assistance
A member of the team will always be in the building from 7:30am – 12:00am, available for any queries you may have. Outside of these hours there will be a contact for any urgent matters.
Families
We welcome children and always do our utmost to ensure they have a great time whilst with us, which makes our Inn a great place for a family treat!
We can accommodate cots and/or extra beds in our Farmhouse Suite, Farmhouse Loft, Stable, Stable Suite and Barn Suite.
Please note that Farmhouse rooms are located above the pub and restaurant, and there may occasionally be some noise disturbance as we are an old building.
Soundproofing
The building is a 16th century farmhouse, that was later converted into a pub as the Mason family’s gift to their butler. As much as we have tried to soundproof the rooms, there is still a bit of noise from room to room, and the windows are the original leaded windows with single pane glass.
However, The Barn Suite, Stable Suite and Stable are all located in separate outbuilding and are thereforevery quiet. Overall, we are located in the middle of the Oxfordshire countryside, and the surrounding area is very peaceful and calm.
